Teacher/Conductor Sought for Two String Ensembles
Civic Youth Orchestra is seeking to hire an
experienced person to rehearse and conduct two string orchestras
of children ages 12 to 17 on Saturdays during the school year,
with afternoon performances two or three times per year. The Intermediate
Ensemble comprises approximately 40 students on violin,
viola, and cello at the intermediate level. The Chamber
Strings Ensemble consists of approximately 20 of
the most advanced members of the Intermediate ensemble. Members
of both ensembles can read and play music at the intermediate
level.
Duties will include auditioning of musicians,
selection of music, teaching of techniques, rehearsing the
students in the selected music, preparing the students for
performances, and conducting them at performances. Rehearsals
are in
North
San Diego
County
on Saturdays for two hours per week for Intermediate
Ensemble and one hour per week for Chamber
Strings Ensemble.
All participants take private music lessons, but the selected
teacher/conductor will not be permitted to solicit participants
for private lessons.
Qualifications should include substantial
experience in string music performance, experience with teaching
children in groups, ability to communicate and relate to
children ages 12 through 17 to make their participation
enjoyable, challenging and contribute to their self esteem. A
public teaching credential is a plus. Managerial and
administrative assistance will be provided.
