Music Teacher/Conductor Sought for Two String Ensembles

Civic Youth Orchestra is seeking to hire an experienced person to rehearse and conduct two string orchestras of children ages 12 to 17 on Saturdays during the school year, with afternoon performances two or three times per year. The Intermediate Ensemble comprises approximately 40 students on violin, viola, and cello at the intermediate level. The Chamber Strings Ensemble consists of approximately 20 of the most advanced members of the Intermediate ensemble. Members of both ensembles can read and play music at the intermediate level.

Duties will include auditioning of musicians, selection of music, teaching of techniques, rehearsing the students in the selected music, preparing the students for performances, and conducting them at performances. Rehearsals are in North San Diego County on Saturdays for two hours per week for Intermediate Ensemble and one hour per week for Chamber Strings Ensemble. All participants take private music lessons, but the selected teacher/conductor will not be permitted to solicit participants for private lessons.

Qualifications should include substantial experience in string music performance, experience with teaching children in groups, ability to communicate and relate to children ages 12 through 17 to make their participation enjoyable, challenging and contribute to their self esteem. A public teaching credential is a plus. Managerial and administrative assistance will be provided.

Interested applicants should send their resumes to Kathryn Rodriguez, General Manager, admin@sandiegocyo.org.  Information on Civic Youth Orchestra is available on our website at www.sandiegocyo.org/ensembles.
