INTERMEDIATE ENSEMBLE
Gregory Lawrence,
Conductor
Gregory
Lawrence earned his Bachelor of Music in Performance (violin) at San Diego State
University where he studied with Dr. Theodore Brunson, with a strong emphasis in
the Suzuki Violin School, and Mr. Howard Hill. He then continued his post
graduate studies with Eudice Shapiro at the University of Southern California,
and later with Mr. Noumi Fischer at his studio in Glendale.
Greg's
professional performing career has afforded him a wonderfully varied background
in many different musical genres. He has worked with the San Diego Symphony, the
San Diego Opera, the San Diego Chamber Orchestra, Starlight Opera, and the San
Diego Lyric Opera. Greg also worked three tours with the Montovani Orchestra,
including a three week tour of Japan. Greg has also worked with Orquesta de Baja
in Tijuana, Mexico, as a violinist and subcontractor. In January 2001, he
founded the Cabrillo Chamber Orchestra, a professional 12-15 piece ensemble
which specializes in the literature of the baroque, rococo and early classical
periods.
Greg's
first exposure to orchestral playing was in his junior year of high school in
1971. He then joined the Civic Youth Orchestra under the baton of late GREAT Dr.
Robert Emile. While he has enjoyed many brilliant musical experiences in his 30
years of playing professionally, Greg states:
"I can
honestly say, my most beloved memories thus far in my life as a musician exist
with my short three year tenure with the Civic Youth Orchestra and Dr. Robert
Emile. Very few conductors since taught me anything new about the art of
orchestral playing."
Greg also
maintains a private teaching studio of over 30 students. |
