Scholarship Program

The CYO Scholarship Program needs your help! Your membership contribution may be used to fund a scholarship to cover full or partial dues for one or more students who meet the criteria you specify. Scholarships may reward outstanding students of a particular instrument or section, or they may simply help a student who can’t afford to participate. Chairs may be endowed and memorial scholarships may be established.

Civic Youth Orchestra expects Parent Participation
It takes many hands to create beautiful music!

To ensure CYO students receive the finest educational experience, parents and other members of the community are encouraged to serve on committees, assist in rehearsal and concert activities, and plan and produce various special events. You can demonstrate how important you believe music education is by becoming involved.

CYO Board of Directors

The CYO Board of Directors meets as required and determines the policy, procedures and budget for the organization. If you are interested in membership on the CYO Board of Directors, contact the General Manager.

CYO Activity Volunteers

CYO parents are encouraged to provide assistance for rehearsals, concerts and special occasions. Volunteers are needed in several areas. Contact the CYO General Manager at (858) 484-9635 to volunteer or see the  volunteer sign-up form.  Some orchestra parents find that a significant donation for scholarship funds is an alternative to their otherwise expected volunteer participation.

Orchestra Assistants. These volunteers assist the conductors during rehearsals and other orchestral activities. They are usually available during all rehearsals and concerts. Tasks may include handing out or collecting music, collecting registration materials or handing out fliers and newsletters. With the younger students, it is especially helpful if you can help with tuning instruments, or play rhythm accompaniment.

Fund Raising. These volunteers provide support to various CYO fund raising activities. They may assist in making fliers and distributing them, collecting pledges, money, handing out products, etc. Most important is helping to plan and staff fund raising committees for events.

Special Activity Volunteers. These volunteers assist the conductors, manager in organizational support activities. They may provide special support during rehearsals, concerts, receptions, festivals and other special activities. They set up telephone trees, carpools and break parties and help coordinate concert and special activity ticket sales. They ensure students and parents are aware of emergency evacuation routes and procedures. These volunteers plan and produce concert receptions, student parties, and award functions. Volunteers are also needed during some rehearsals to help the orchestra assistants with copying, stuffing envelopes, and roll call.

Special Needs. Volunteers are needed to help with publicity and press contacts. Also grant writers and corporation contacts would be of great value. Can you build a web site or are you an experienced Web Master? Newsletter reporters, music librarians, and Alumni Association organizers are also needed.
